ARE YOU LIVING IN THE WILL OF GOD? -- II

Colossians 1:9, 10

Proposition:   To introduce the criteria for a Christian to discern the will of God for himself as revealed in Scripture.  We will look at three of the things that God identifies as His will in Scripture and further explain how a believer can be living in the will of God.

        Introduction

              A.  The Potential for Knowing the Will of God for One's Walk

              B.   The Provision of the Twelve Things Revealed as the Will of God

              C.  The Practicing of the Will of God by the Believer

              D.  The Program for Detection of the Will of God

TRANS:   Last week we looked at a passage that clearly said it was God's desirous will for the believer to present his or her body a living sacrifice and to be transformed by the renewedness of the mind.  The third area involves one's spiritual gift.  God desired the believer to have it and he expects the believer to use it!

  I.  GOD DESIRES YOU TO BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWEDNESS OF YOUR MIND -- A SIGNIFICANT SENSIBILITY THAT TRANSFORMS THE BELIEVER -- Romans 12:2

        B.   The Second Element Described as the Will of God -- The Transformation by the Renewedness of the Mind -- Vs. 2a

              1.   Not Conformed to This Age

              2.   But Transformed by the Renewedness of the Mind

        C.  The Testing for the Reality or Purity of the Will of God -- Vs. 2b

              1.  Good

              2.  Acceptable

              3.  Perfect or Complete

TRANS:   The third area that directly involves the will of God is the fact that a believer has a spiritual gift at the moment he or she is saved.

II.  GOD DESIRES YOU TO USE YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFT TO HIS GLORY -- A SPIRITUAL SPECIAL ABILITY ABOVE WHAT IS NORMAL AND NOT NATURAL (I. E. BY ONE'S PHYSICAL BIRTH) -- 1 Corinthians 12:18

        A.  The Father's Arrangements for a Believer "in Christ"

              1.  By Baptism of the Holy Spirit = Spirit Baptism (1 Cor. 12:12, 13) at Salvation

              2.  For Place and Function in the Body of Christ

        B.   The Father's Arrangements for Spiritual Gifts for the Body of Christ

        C.  The Believer's Acquisition of a Spiritual Gift Because of the Will of God

        D.  The Affirmation That If God Desires One to Have a Spiritual Gift, He Expects That One to Use It

        E.   The Believer's Attention Toward His or Her Spiritual Gift

              1.  Discover What It Is -- You Already Have It at the Moment of Salvation

              2.  Learn How to Use It

                  a.  Its Enhanced Abilities

                  b.  Its Radar

TRANS:     The next area of the will of God revealed involves one's freely giving one's person.  The Macedonian believers were impoverished among the poorest of the poor yet they gave themselves to the Lord by the will of God and were led to give from what little they had to the poor saints in Jerusalem.

III.  GOD DESIRES YOU TO GIVE YOURSELVES TO THE LORD AND TO OTHER BELIEVERS -- A FREE GIVING OF ONESELF TO THE LORD, THE HEAD OF THE BODY, AND OTHERS IN THE BODY OF CHRIST -- 2 Corinthians 8:5

        A.  Setting Apart Christ as Lord -- 1 Peter 3:15

        B.   Giving One's Person to the Lord -- 2 Corinthians 8:5

        C.  Recognizing That He Is the Head of the Body

        D.  Relating to Being in the Body of Christ

              1.  Under Christ as the Head

              2.  With Members of the Church Which Is His Body

        E.   Acknowledging the Desirous Will of God for the Macedonians

TRANS:   We do not live in a slave society as existed in the Roman Empire.  A large percentage of the populous were slaves.  They composed a substantial number of the Christians in the early church.  Their employment was that expected of slaves.  I believe that these truths apply to a Christian on the job today.

IV.  GOD DESIRES YOU TO SERVE AS A BONDSLAVE BELONGING TO CHRIST -- A SPECIAL SERVICE DOING THE WILL OF GOD AS TO THE LORD [originally as slaves] -- Ephesians 6:6, 7

        A.  Christian Slaves Living in the Roman Empire -- Vs. 5

        B.   Slaves of Men Who Are Slaves Belonging to God -- Vs. 6

              1.  Not with Eyeservice as Menpleasers

              2.  As Bondslaves Belonging to Christ

        C.  Simplicity of Doing the Will of God in Employment from the Heart

        D.  Serving as Saints with a Good Mental Attitude -- Vs. 7

              1.      As to the Lord

          2.  Not to Man

        E.   The Sharing of the Responsibility Whether a Slave or Free -- Vs. 8

TRANS:   Hebrews 13:20, 21 reveals that doing the will of God requires divine intervention in order to do it right.  Paul asks that the Hebrew Christians be thoroughly adjusted in every good thing to be doing the will of God.  God makes the adjustment and is pleased with the result in the lives of believers.

  V.  GOD ADJUSTS YOU IN EVERY GOOD THING TO DO HIS WILL -- A DIVINE WORKING THAT ENABLES THE BELIEVER TO DO GOD'S WILL -- Hebrews 13:20, 21

        A.  The Activity of God the Father -- Vs. 20

        B.   The Adjustment Made by the Father -- Vs. 21

              1.   You = Christians

              2.   In Every Good Thing = That Which Makes God Happy

        C.  The Arrangement for His Doing in Us

              1.   The Thing That Is Pleasing to Him

              2.   Before Him

        D.  The Agency of Jesus Christ

        E.   The Agreement with God and Identification of His Will

TRANS:   God clearly reveals what he desires of the Christian.  We are looking at those things that He identifies as his will in the text of the New Testament.  A believer must be in a proper relationship in order for him or her to be thoroughly adjusted in every good work and so to be doing the will of God.

      Conclusion

              A.

              B.

              C.

              D.
